Oh glorious Newtown! A sugary sweet, heartwarming event SWAK

Lenie and CJ Life Is Precious croppedValentine’s Day 2013 finally arrived and with it so too arrived thousands of cupcakes to the quaint town of Newtown, Connecticut. The donation of sweet treats, art supplies and LIP Life Is Precious shirts came compliments of generous contributors to MeetUP for Change and the organization’s LIP Life Is Precious movement.

Baked goods “sealed with a kiss” were provided by Wal-Marts and Sam’s Clubs of Connecticut; Sprinkles NYC; Babycakes NYC; Cherries Cupcakes and D’Orazio Sisters Bakery, both of Newtown; and Connecticut favorites JCakes and Sugarbelle Bakery.

To show their love, New England Confectionery Company (Necco) sent boxes upon boxes of their ubiquitous Sweetheart candies.

While at times the event became emotional, generally the air was filled with gasps of delight and peals of laughter as guests entered the makeshift confectionery wonderland to enjoy all it had to offer. Many told organizers or exclaimed amongst themselves “this is exactly what we needed.” In all, approximately 500 first responders, children, parents and staff from Sandy Hook Elementary School attended the event.

Volunteers from the Newtown community as well as Connecticut Wal-Marts and Sam’s Clubs made the heartwarmer event extra special with their compassion and enthusiasm. Special guest volunteers Martie Duncan and Linkie Marais of Food Network Star also shared their generous spirit with the Sandy Hook community.

The simple yet powerful LIP Life Is Precious concept resonated with those in attendance as they enthusiastically donned t-shirts bearing the LIP message.

In the end, everyone hated to see the evening come to an end.

Cute socially conscious “Ts” sealed with a kiss!

We love the social entrepreneurship of Toms, the company that famously “has a buy one give one” approach to shoes and eyewear. We have a similLife Is Precious Nano shirt layoutar philosophy  with women’s, men’s and kids line of shirts and hats featuring a powerful sentiment: LIP Life Is Precious.

For every shirt or hat that is purchased, we will give one to a member of a community in need. After a crisis. After a natural disaster. To begin to return a sense of love . hope . happiness.

Our stylish line of shirts and baseball caps will not only be something you will be proud to wear, but they will also provide “heartwarming”  outreach to those most in need.

Shirts and hats will be available for purchase January 9, 2013. The first delivery of community shirts will go to citizens in Newtown, Connecticut for Valentine’s Day 2013.

Bringing love . hope . happiness to those in need and sealing it with a kiss!

LIP Life Is Precious

Hearts broke around the world when children and adults in Newtown Connecticut senselessly lost their lives.

In this same year, two events — one tragic and one miraculous — happened to people I care about personally.
In the first, another young man lost his short and brilliant life much too soon.
In the second, a friend’s life was saved when he received an organ transplant after years of waiting.
These events, while not related, all pointed to one simple but resounding truth: Life Is Precious.

Please join us in bringing the LIP Life Is Precious movement to communities like Newtown in need of a  little love . hope . happiness.
